Mufflers and Exhausts: OEM vs. Aftermarket

The question of whether to use OEM or aftermarket muffler and exhaust parts is a question of both price and quality. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and means that the part was made by the same manufacturer who made the original. Aftermarket does not necessarily mean that the part is lower quality and in some cases, can be better engineered than the original.

If you get an OEM part, you know that it will fit perfectly and perform similar to the original part. With an aftermarket part manufacturer, you need to do your research. In some cases, the aftermarket part is meant as an upgrade from the original. However, in some cases, they are made as cheaply as possible and will not perform as well as the original.
